Verpan Fun 1TA Table Lamp
Designed in 1964 by Verner Panton, probably the most influential Scandinavian designer of the twentieth century, the Verpan Fun 1TA is the three-ringed version of the iconic table lamp.
The Fun series of lamps utilises the natural convection energy of the unit’s warm bulb – which is completely obscured by the lamp - to gently oscillate the chain linked cascading metal discs surrounding it. This generates random scintillations of light accompanied by the restful sound of the discs gently chafing against one another.
Constructed of the highest quality materials and engraved with Verner Panton’s name, the Fun 1TA has an integral on/off switch. An expression of its designer’s belief in a bright, happy future it initially shocked and revolutionised the design world with its unashamed Pop Art influence. Post-Vietnam it was perceived as less serious and not political – but its appeal never waned and it has remained in continuous production for almost fifty years.
The arrival of post-modernism in the nineteen nineties brought the Fun series – and Verner Panton - firmly back into fashion. Ownership of one of these lamps is an investment in your own design discernment. The Fun series has weathered the cultural and political changes that have shaped the post war landscape because its spirited, optimistic flair is grounded in great design.
